Interview with Ann Druyan -April 2006
Several years ago I had the opportunity to meet the great Antonio Sanchez Ibarra, astronomer, friend and mentor (who died almost a year ago), one of the most rewarding activities I did with him was to promote and handle the interview with Ann Druyan, co-worker and widow of Carl Sagan.

Ann Druyan is a writer and producer. Wrote with Carl Sagan the books “Comet”, “Murmurs of Earth” and “Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors” and sections in the book “The Demon-Haunted World”, the introduction of “The Cosmic Connection” and the epilogue Sagan’s last book, “Billions.”
She was also one of the writers of the famous television series “Cosmos” and producer of the movie “Contact,” based on the only novel wrote by Carl Sagan. Similarly, she was involved in the selection of music that would be recorded on disks that travel outside the solar system in the Voyager probes, with all the information possible about our species. In fact, the sound of a beating heart recorded on the disc, is the heart of Druyan.
Ann Druyan currently resides in Ithaca, New York with her children Sasha and Sam. She is co-founder of Cosmos Studios and participates in the project of the Cosmos 1 spacecraft intended to demonstrate propulsion in space with a solar sail. Journals help New York Sunday Magazine, Reader’s Digest and Discover. She also encourages a new educational model in the Carl Sagan Academy in Tampa, Florida.
The interview was made by Antonio Sánchez Ibarra by telephone on December 12, 2005. For half an hour, Ann talked about the scientific perspective, educational and social she shared with Carl Sagan for nearly twenty years until his death on December 20, 1996 at 62 years of age.
The audio was recorded via telephone by Eutimio Armenta of Radio Universidad. Ali Omar Lopez Herrera made the stenographic translation. The production of both video and audio for @ strotv were made by Miguel Angel Franco Tanguma
Although this interview is little more than four years old, the content is so valuable and inspiring that I wanted to include it here to share it with you.
This interview was shown on video, with audio in English and Spanish subtitles.
I hope you enjoy!
